Description: Over the past 25 years, the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV; National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology), Italy, has played a leading role in promoting geoethics, exploring the ethical, social, and cultural dimensions of both theoretical and applied geosciences. In this context, the Journal of Geoethics and Social Geosciences was established as a diamond open-access journal and has the goal to become a key reference for publications addressing critical issues of our time. Geoethics and social geosciences encompass the ethical and social challenges at the intersection of geosciences and various sectors of society, including politics, media, education at all levels, institutional settings, and individual citizens. This special volume presents a selection of articles showcasing the theoretical and practical advancements developed within INGV on foundational topics, including risk mitigation strategies, the ethics of data management, tools for geoscience education and communication, and gender equality.
